Swim platform and flotation
Hi, I am modifying a 14' Livingston power cat. The boat needs more flotation aft so I am adding cube shaped flotation blocks on each transom. I have roughed up the shape and need some advice on core and fiberglass layup schedule.
The cubes are 22" wide, 12 tall and project aft 16", providing approx 125# of flotation on each side.
My cores are EPS and currently have 1/2" plywood at the fore and aft ends. SS threaded rod will run from the aft end of the blocks through the transom to hold them to the boat.
Here are some questions I could use some help with:
should I use a synthetic core at the front and rear of the blocks? How about the top or deck?
what type of cloth and how many layers should I use?
how should I make the tops non skid?
should I paint or try gel coat? I do not have a sprayer.
How many pieces of 1/4 threaded rod should I use to hold the cubes on?
Finally, I have some pictures but can't see how to attach files,

You can attach files by using the image buttons, the pictures need to be hosted somewhere (here or photobucket or similar)

On to the project .....
I cant really give good advise here because I would not construct the flotation chamber this way - for many reasons.
It would be much easier and stronger to build plywood boxes, epoxy/glass inside and out, then bolt them to the transom. They are not taking any engine weight, just the weight of someone standing on them.
