Fishing, stories and pictures - lets hear them all
Most of our customers are fishermen, so whats better than sharing/bragging about your catch with fellow boat builders? Lets see what you are catching.....

nice snook! I have not eaten one of those in while.
Its just about that time of year when the weeds mat up and the schoolies get thick
Hope you can get out this week then. Cobia started showing yet?

Just got this in my email. Looks like he got one just in time

Cobia are in for sure but most of the good fishermen have put a voluntary moratorium on Port Royal Cobia this year. The numbers have been way down over the last few years and studies show that 85% of the fish being caught were bred and released from the Waddell Mariculture Center. and are not native fish to Port Royal. According to the DNR the PR cobia fishery is on the verge of collapse, and it will take the SC legislature 5 years to pass new limits and regulations, at which point they will probably close it altogether. Many local fishermen have either quit fishing for them, or catch and release only. The Waddell Center keeps 2 boats in the river 5 days a week with large tanks. They are begging anyone who catches a female to keep it in the water and call them on the radio. They will come to you and pick up the fish for breeding stock.
Sort of like the trout were a couple years ago, they got hurt bad by 2 very cold winters. The responsible fishermen realized the problem and quit keeping trout for a couple of years, long before the state could react. Trout are fine again now

That's sad to hear, I hope it bounces back.
I remember reading something a few years ago about the port royal cobia. Article said that they were not just fish migrating up the coast in the spring, but instead they were a distinct population that comes in from offshore

Rogerdog and I went fishing yesterday in Port Royal, unfortunately we didn't go catching, we just went fishing :? Spring can be tough fishing, the fish are in transition between their winter and summer patterns, not much bait in yet, full moon, big tides and a lot of rain doesn't help.
Raymond and Dave went in their boat and our plan was for me to head upriver into the creeks and they were going downriver towards the ocean and we would call each other, if either found some fish.
We headed up into my never fail shrimp creek and couldn't even find a shrimp. Checked a half dozen spots, no shrimp. Headed to one of my never fail redfish holes and couldn't buy a bite. Found the fish, they were swimming all around the boat by the hundreds, wouldn't bite anything. Fished most of the falling tide and part of the incoming, caught 1 real nice flounder and 2 sting rays all day. Raymond and Dave caught a couple of whiting.
To salvage the day I parked the boat between 2 oyster mountains and let the tide leave us. Rogerdog got out and scratched up a 7 gallon bucket full of SC select single oysters The best oysters in the USA! Now Rogerdog understands why we need a graphite bottom and a stainless prop. I don't think he's ever seen the kind of places I take my boat One thing about oysters, you don't have to hunt for them, or wait for them to bite, and they don't run very fast.
But it was a beautiful day, the boat didn't break, nobody got hurt and Rogerdog took home enough fish, shrimp and oysters to make a real good seafood platter, and I'm smoking oysters on the grill for lunch

Re: Fishing, stories and pictures - lets hear them all
Fished in a local tournament, 31 boats. We took biggest king, biggest cobia, most species (picked up .5 lb snapper on the way in), 1st place overall, second in calcutta. What a great day! All the fish were caught withing 1000 yards of each other, action was hot.

Re: Fishing, stories and pictures - lets hear them all
quick deep drop trip to other side, tasty little snappers.
Yellow eye, blackfin, strawberry grouper, silver snapper (grunt), a couple unknown snappers, and what I think it a baby barrel fish. 1600' to 450'
fought a 300 lb shark for 1.5 hours that we thought for certain was a tuna (it ate a bait in the middle of a tuna school). It was hooked on a 50 lb leader and tiny circle hook !
Saw a huge blue marlin free jumping while we were deep dropping. Big fish over on the other side:)

Hey larry,
Yes, that does make me a little home sick. Beautiful lowcountry fall action. Unfortunately, we will not be making it up this fall, maybe a trip up after Christmas.
Our mullet run was exceptional this year, here is a clip of some snook we watched eat while at dinner the other night.

Peter, nice wahoo! They are starting to catch a good number here now, I need to get out!

Those are some nice hoos Peter! And they will eat a lot better than redfish and trout. Make me dream of sushi when I see hoos
Sorry you won't make it this fall Joel. Is your Dad still in the area? We're trying to teach this new GF18 how to catch some fish. Seems to be a fast learner!

Made a quick trip on a buddy's boat yesterday morning before a front. Found a piece of tree in 160'. Dolphin, cobia, triggers. One big cobia would not bite, was goinf to hop in a shoot him until a BUNCH of bull sharks showed up. Back by 1:30
fish box is pretty huge, makes the fish look small
