New Member, New Project
I've been lurking for a few weeks as I contemplate my current project and read up on similar rebuilds. I've got a '78 Seacraft CC that needs some love this summer. Here's a few photos of her, first two are from a couple of weeks ago. Second two are from today as I finally have time to start tearing off fittings and getting down into the guts. Once everything topside comes off I need to rip the deck out, the stringers need some work. I was able to rip all of the fiberglass off the gunwales by hand - not a good sign I'm thinking. Plus the bits of wood you see in the last photo came up with light pressure from my fingers. She's drying out under cover right now while I consider options.

The big picture stuff that has to be addressed:
1. Gunwale / cap - especially up front. Rot to address and need to redo things in the bow complete. Thinking of adding a forward anchor compartment, but first things first have to address structural issues.
2. Deck and console. Have to pull the whole deck to get at the fuel tank, which is a project by itself. Going to build a side console from scratch because of what I primarily use the boat for.
3. Fuel tank - currently lots of sludge, so minimum pull/assess and hopefully just clean and re-plumb.
4. Transom - recently had a motor put on the back and the mechanic advised me one of the bolts pulled through when he did so. Whole thing probably needs to be replaced. I'd really like to build a full transom and put a bracket on the back but not sure the budget can support this year.
Overall my plan is to start at the top and work my way down and aft. I'm sure I'll find more as I tear into her.

Wow, this will be a big project! After you get the demo done, the transom is normally the best place to start rebuilding. Hopefully the boat has the original (fiberglass) stringers.

Initially I wanted to start on top and work my way from the bow to the stern but what you're saying makes more sense. Started ripping the deck of yesterday. The one stringer I can see in the center so far needs some work. At one point the fiberglass was cut away near the bow and back by the transom. Plenty of water ingress to deal with, not to mention no sign of fiberglass or epoxy coating anywhere. Pretty soon it's going to be time to start ordering materials.

Im trying to figure out what is original and what is from the first "renovation", I cant see much that resembles a seacraft on the inside, so it must all be new. The center little keel stringer is not so important as the large fiberglass ones
