I am starting to build up a collection of boat building tools, and I am curious what your favorite fairing boards are. I know some have hooked up some home recipes and 3m has rigid and not so rigid boards.

Thanks

I have 3, all are home made. One made from 1/4 ply, very flexible, one from 3/8 and one stiff, from 1/2. They are all 4" wide, lengths vary from 24 to 30 inches. I use standard belt sander belts cut to length and attached with 3M temporary adhesive. All have two 1 1/4" wood dowels for handles. You can build 3 for less money than you can buy one. Works just as good as store bought.

its certainly not a problem to make your own, I have a few of various lengths. You should have at least one that is 30" or longer for the fairing of the hullsides and bottom, that length makes a huge difference in showing overall fairness. You can also make various radius sanding blocks with pieces of pvc
