No reason, they could just as easily be brought forward (probably easier to bend further forward )
Re: New boat project CCSF25.5 - build thread
whisky plank is set, now for some filling and shaping before glassing the hull.

Re: New boat project CCSF25.5 - build thread
its hard to tell, but I have made some progress on the boat. I filled the rest of the gaps (from the inside) which took a lot of time. Today removed the rest of the screws that held the strips to the molds. There were over 650 screws holding the strips to shape - now there are zero !
Im taking off the transom mold to use it as a template to cut the plywood. Until now, I still needed to get under the boat to fill seams. once the plywood transom gets fitted, I will trim the hull to blend in, then fiberglass the outside of the hull.

not unless you count speckled trout I missed a trip a couple weeks ago (family in town), my buddy limited out on YF tuna in one hour. I think they had almost 500 lb of fish. He trailered the boat up to canaveral and went to the eastside gulfstream buoy, kicked myself for missing that one!
how about you?

Re: New boat project CCSF25.5 - build thread
Was not able to work on the boat at all this week. Yesterday afternoon I could not stand it looking the same so I at least hung the transom. this is just the outside layer of core. The transom is actually a little over 4' tall from keel to deck because of the camber in the deck, so this first layer is just flat across the deck for now, later when I add an additional layer of core, I will build up the deck camber.
Transom is AB marine fir. I guess I could have put the A side out to make it look nicer
Now I can trim the hull core and some of the sides, round everything and fiberglass. If time permits I will start glassing the hull next week.

trimmed and cleaned up the transom. It fun going at cedar with a 24 grit grinding disk Respirator and glasses on of course, made a heap of saw dust.
Im going to glass the transom first. I have a sample of a 14 oz biaxial cloth that I may use for the entire bottom, but I want to test it first. Its flatter and softer than the regular 12 oz

Re: New boat project CCSF25.5 - build thread
Tabbed the transom on this afternoon, its a little tricky with the strakes. I need to get this puppy glassed before it gets warm again. If I have some time tomorrow, will try to get a layer of 1708 on the transom so that I can glass the bottom later this week.
Re: New boat project CCSF25.5 - build thread
started glassing the bottom today, put two layers of 12 oz biax down the keel. Will be putting the chine tabbing on tomorrow and maybe more if time permits.

adding chine/bottom tabbing before I run more glass on the bottom. With all the overlaps, the chine will have a minimum of 4 layer of biax cloth. Have a few fishing trips lined up next week, and the weather is perfect for glass work, so Im pushing to get as much of the bottom glassed this week as possible.
Re: New boat project CCSF25.5 - build thread
two more layers down between strakes this morning. Needed an extra day this week.
Re: New boat project CCSF25.5 - build thread
Port hullside got one layer of glass today. First picture is after rolling on epoxy on the wood, second if after one layer of 12 oz biax.

Moving right along. I really like the lines of that hull

Second layer on port hull side, and port side strakes glassed.

Then you can't wait to get it sanded off
Hull looks great! Makes me tired to watch.

Yeah, Im trying not to think too much about that part
Hull is just about glassed completely on the outside, put a couple layers on the transom yesterday. Starboard strakes were glassed on Tuesday. Now I just need to add an extra layer on the keel, add the kevlar strips to the chine, keel, and maybe the strakes
Re: New boat project CCSF25.5 - build thread
put an extra strip on 1708 down the keel, added a narrow strips of kevlar to the keel at the bow, outside strake, and forward section of the chine. Kevlar is sandwiched under a layer of 12 oz biax tape.
Re: New boat project CCSF25.5 - build thread
started putting down some fairing. Also installing the back side of the hull extensions, had to get those shaped so I could fair the transom. The extensions get a little more glass.
Re: New boat project CCSF25.5 - build thread
I've been watching your progress on this project and I'm very impressed like everyone else. I'm anxious to see how this turns out. I would like to start another boat project next winter and this design seems to be just what I am looking for. There seems to be lots of Carolina style center console plans out there but I was hoping to find something with a little more of a performance hull design for a bit higher top speed. Are you planning on running twins or a single and what do you think the performance will be?
Keep up the good work.
